Tambolero – Badjao (sea gypsys) drummer dou

Filmed a couple of Badjao Drummer boys from Zamboanga at our front gate.

from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bajau_people

The Bajau (/ˈbædʒɔː/, also spelled Badjao, Bajaw, Bajao, Bajo, Badjau, or Badjaw), are an indigenous ethnic group of Maritime Southeast Asia. Bajau continue to live a seaborne lifestyle, making use of small wooden sailing vessels (such as the perahu and vinta). They are also known as Sama or Samal.
The Bajau are traditionally from the islands of the Sulu Archipelago, as well as parts of the coastal areas of Mindanao and northern Borneo. In the last fifty years, many of the Filipino Bajau have migrated to neighboring Malaysia and the northern Philippines, due to the continuing conflict in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Currently they are the second largest ethnic group in the state of Sabah, making up 13.4%[1] of the total population. Groups of Bajau have also migrated to Sulawesi and Kalimantan in Indonesia, although figures of their exact population are unknown.[3]
Bajau have sometimes been referred to as the Sea Gypsies, although the term has been used to encompass a number of non-related ethnic groups with similar traditional lifestyles, such as the Moken of the Burmese-Thai Mergui Archipelago and the Orang Laut of southeastern Sumatra and the Riau Islands of Indonesia. The modern outward spread of the Bajau from older inhabited areas seems to have been associated with the development of sea trade in sea cucumber (trepang).

The great outdoors, India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, the ghost land, the mystic islands what have you…are among the list of places I want to go to…traverse…immerse.. Pak!!! Let’s start with the Philippines shall we. I don’t want to be “ignorante sa sariling cultura, arts at lokal” you know… Take note this trip ain’t funded or sponsored. It’s not like the stuff we used to do for.. It’s either I go to places that they hire me to shoot stocks or I’m on assignment. This time it’s back(f)acking… backfacking101… pangs istayl eh… To give you a glimpse..watch the vid..

To be honest I’m not good at bragging specially about places I’ve been, school, photography, cinematography, food, weddings, marriage, relationships, what have you. Probably this video right here is gotta try my wits to BOLDLY SAY that we survive this effin trip with more or less Php 2,000.00 out from our pockets… Not to mention the emotion sickness..specially katong pauli na.. I must admit that I missed my kids and my other half,,..halfway this trip…This was NO easy trip at all. But the heck to get back home with this footages, photos, sands, the memories is more than rewarding, fulfilling.. despite the thirst, the hunger, all of the inconvenience in the world… Perhaps this can be in my list of gladwetried(.)com

Anyways..Happy Watching!!! Enjoy!!!

Mount Mayon Volcano short timelapse clip

from the lost tapes

Oh the beauty of this lost and found tape

After dusting off hundreds of miniDV tapes from my archive boxes. I came across our Bicol Expedition sometime 2007-08. Oh yeah I know it’s the tape days. Anyhow, just sharin’ a short timelapse video from the molded tape. Enjoy!

FROM WIKI: Mayon Volcano, also known as Mount Mayon, is an active volcano in the province of Albay, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Renowned as the "perfect cone" because of its almost symmetric conical shape, Mayon forms the northern boundary of Legazpi City, the largest city in terms of population in the Bicol Region. The mountain was first declared as a national park and a protected landscape on July 20, 1938 in the country. It was reclassified and renamed as Mayon Volcano Natural Park in the year 2000.[3]
